Fresh Twist Item of the Day

When I watched this dress go down the Asos runway, I just knew I had to have it. A fresh twist on a classic black dress, this frock can be accessorized with so much color! Add a shell underneath or a cropped cardigan on top (so as not to take away from the design), and you are modestly set for any excursion.  Bonus! That yellow belt comes with the dress, so for $50, you really get your money's worth! I can only dream of what this dress would look like with sleeves. Sigh.

Impressionist Item of the Day

Happy almost spring! This one is for all the art lovers out there, and now that Purim os over, it's time to start thinking of t hat new Passover wardrobe; that calls for some truly bright and springy clothes! Not that that has stopped me from posting spring items all winter long, but at least this Monet/Impressionist like skirt is fit for a spring Queen-- and summer too, of course. The colors here are strong but delicate, and the skirt can be paired nicely with a good navy or turquoise top. Most people are inclined to wear the heavy colors on the bottom, but I find it more appealing when there is a darker color on top and a softer design on the bottom-- it makes for a much more interesting look.

Modest Hollywood

Happy Purim, y'all! I figured that a Modest Hollywood post was due, and what better way to celebrate this festive holiday than with some really awesome fashion! This is the one day of the Jewish year where you can dress up like a celebrity and pretend you're being hounded by papparazzi, and everyone will accept you for it. It's just the nature of the holiday-- we accept weirdos for one day, and one day only. So happy Purim to one and all, and may your life be as crazy as a celebrity's today!

Maxi Item of the Day

One of the last maxi dresses I posted was such a hit with you guys, that I figured it was time to post a nother one. This one has a really low cut to it, so cover up that front to your heart's content, but the long sleeve option of this dress makes full coverage easy-schmeazy! It looks super comfortable, and is in a really forgiving fabric, so it's really great for all different shapes and sizes. I totally love this for a lazy day when you don't want to get dressed but still wanna look aces. It's especially perfect for the months that transition into warmer weather, but you still need that warmer coverage. Fabulosity and functionality makes for a stupendous pairing!

Girly Item of the Day

Looking for a top that is ultra feminine but still strong? Here ya go! This silky soft top from The Limited is perfect for all your fancier outfits, and that bow is so chic and girlie, that it sorta makes me want to giggle for the hell of it. It's just what girls do. It's perfect for the office on a nice day, but glam it up at wedding-- it has the perfect neckline for a great necklace.

The Tropics!

Are you feeling the heat?? Not yet, obviously, because it's still winter. Boo. Fear not, though, because the clothing stores are packed with hot spring clothes, and nothing is hotter this season than tropical prints! Large floral prints are the statement of the moment, so don't hesitate to embrace the trend at full force. If you can't actually be in Hawaii, you might as well dress like you are!

The key to pulling this look off is balance. These prints are not for the feint of heart, so if you decide to go bold, make sure you wear toned down pieces, like neutrals to counter. In fact, I would go even further to say that you should choose a pretty basic outfit and spice it up with a tropical piece, like a blazer or cardigan. Bigger prints are better on smaller parts of your body, so if you have a very large bust, tray and avoid tops, and stick to skirts; if your bu, is the larger part of you, then try and stick to smaller on the bottom and larger on top.

Floral Item of the Day

Ok, OAKies, you have to be in a super feminine mood to pull off this item of the day considering it has a girlie factor of, like, 1000 (and a slight tablecloth factor as well). All things considered though, the adorableness of this dress is undeniable, and it is certainly a perfect print for spring. If the print is too much for you but you still like the dress, try adding a cardigan or even a black belt for major contrast, just to break up the girly-ness.

Comfy Item of the Day

Today's item of the day is nothing fancy, but given the weather in New York these past couple of days, all I have wanted to do is be in comfy clothing. I would have preferred pajamas and Chinese food, but being that i am a working professional, pajamas simply would not suffice. This Gap shirt is so simple and basic and belongs in the pile of clothing for those days when you just feel like being in bed. This top can be dressed down with a denim skirt and some moccasins, or dressed up by being tucked in to a pencil skirt and adding a blazer. In any case, here's to spending the rest of today curled up in bed watching 'Revenge' or reading a good book!
